We have implemented the following policies to ensure that your tutoring experience is seamless and positive. Please familiarize yourself with them and contact the EducationWise office if you have any questions or concerns.

Satisfaction Guarantee

We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee for our tutoring services.  If you are dissatisfied with your or your child’s tutoring experience, we will gladly process a refund up to a maximum of the cost of one tutoring hour provided we receive notice within at most two days of the tutoring session.

This satisfaction guarantee does not apply to cancellations or student no-shows.  Please note that the maximum liability that EducationWise can be subject to is one hour of tutoring services.

Our tutoring rates are based on the qualifications of the tutor and the difficulty of the assignment. We offer discounts for regular or volume tutoring to make it as affordable as possible.  All pre-paid packages are valid up to one year and are transferable within the same household.  A higher hourly rate may be applied for those who wish to prepay before each session, to make up for the additional admin time to process each payment.

EducationWise believes that high-quality educational support should be accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances.  Subsidized rates are available for individuals and families on low incomes, and confidentiality is assured.

Payments and Refunds

Payment for the first tutoring session is due prior to the agreed date of the tutoring session.  Payments may be made by either Visa, MasterCard, email bank transfer or cheque.

If you choose to pay by credit card, our head office will gather your billing information and process the first payment prior to the first session.  Credit cards are charged a month at a time in advance of the planned sessions.

E-transfer payments are made in package amounts arranged between you and EducationWise.  Most clients pay in four-hour or eight-hour packages.  E-transfers must be sent at least 24 hours in advance of tutoring to provide office staff with sufficient time to process the payment and confirm the session with your tutor.

If you have a positive balance on your account at the end of tutoring, you may request a refund or leave it as credit for any future tutoring you may require.  Any refunds will include a small admin fee.

Tutoring Locations and Schedules

Tutoring sessions can be held in your home, at a public library, at your college or university, or at another convenient location.  Online tutoring is available, and we have many tutors experienced in online teaching.  We also have a small tutoring centre near the University of Calgary.

Learn more about our measures to provide safe tutoring during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tutoring sessions are scheduled for one hour per week by default, though it is possible to schedule for other frequencies or longer periods of time if done in advance.  When you begin tutoring, your tutor will plan a schedule with you for future sessions.  You are not obligated to keep this schedule, provided you give your tutor at least 24 hours’ notice in advance of any schedule changes (see Cancellations below).

At the end of each in-person session, you will be asked to sign a timesheet confirming that the session took place as recorded.  A similar process is in place for online tutoring.

Any cancellations or changes to the tutoring schedule must be arranged no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled session, or the session will be charged at full price.  Please contact your tutor directly to cancel or reschedule.

If we must cancel a session, we will reschedule the session at a convenient time for you.  If we are not able to make up a session, you will not be charged.

Lateness and No-Shows

If a student is late for a tutoring session, the tutor will attempt to reach the student by telephone and will wait at the tutoring location for 10 minutes.  If the student does not arrive within 10 minutes, the session is considered a no-show and regular fees will apply.  If the student does arrive within 10 minutes, the tutoring session will resume for the remainder of the originally scheduled session.

Open Communication

In order to provide an optimal tutoring experience, we rely on you to report any issues or concerns about the services you are receiving from your tutor.  Discuss the matter directly with your tutor or contact the office early on so that we can resolve any problems quickly.

If you feel that you would work better with a different tutor, or if you require assistance in courses or grade levels outside your tutor’s area of expertise, contact us to be matched with another tutor.

We will conduct a satisfaction call after the first session and at the end of the school year or semester, and may conduct other such calls over the course of your tutoring.  We ask that you respond to these communications so we can ensure that you are having the best possible experience with EducationWise tutoring.

Solicitation of EducationWise Tutors

Tutors who have contracted with EducationWise have agreed in writing not to accept direct employment from EducationWise clients or client referrals for a period of three years.  Please do not ask your tutor to provide tutoring services independent from EducationWise.
